The fact that a theory can explain experimental observations does not necessarily make it correct. The explanations presented in this book fit in with experimental observations, but this does not mean that they are ‘true’ – they just represent our interpretation of the data at this stage in time. Each generation of scientists believes that they are presenting a true description of reality, but is it possible for more than one explanation to fit the facts? You, or indeed I, may not be able to think of a better explanation to fit many of the experimental observations in modern science, but that does not mean that there isn’t one.
