Hello, I Am Farid Azar
I am a teacher with the Mission School District (SD75) in the ancestorial, unceded, shared territories of the Leq’á:mel, Matheqwí, Qwó:ltl’el and Sq’éwlets peoples.
I hold two master’s degrees in teaching and education. I am a certified teacher in BC, Ontario, and Québec, having had the privilege of teaching in the Cree First Nations’ reserve in Mistissini, Québec.
I am an active member of the Mission Teachers’ Union (MTU); serving as a Union Representative, the Constitution and Policy Committee, and two Union-School board Joint Committees, namely the Joint Educational Advisory and the Technology Committee. With the BCTF, I am the MTU’s political action contact and a member of three Provincial Specialist Associations (PSL): BCATML, TIE-BC, and BCTESOL. I have a two-year appointment in the BCTF’s Committee for Action on Social Justice–Peace and Global Education Action Group. I am also representative for the BCTF to the Ministry of Education’s Provincial Literacy and Numeracy Benchmarks project. Finally, I will represent the BCTF at the CTF’s 2021 AGM.
Finally, I do my best to serve my community outside of the school. I am a recipient of the Health Canada grant on Safe and Healthy Schools for leading an anti-vaping awareness project in the Mission School District in collaboration with Fraser Health. Moreover, I have committed to improving my community; volunteering in the Syrian Refugee Students’ Association and helping students with their academic skills has been one of the most rewarding experiences.
